About Party Food Calculators

Party Food Calculators is a small, independent site with one job: tell you how much to buy when you're feeding a crowd, using the same portion standards professional caterers use, so you don't have to guess.

Where the numbers come from

Portion rules are drawn from professional catering portion guides, university extension party-planning guides, and USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service guidance for thawing and roasting. Cost benchmarks come from national marketplace surveys and The Knot's annual wedding study. Each calculator page links to its sources at the bottom, and we re-check them every year before the holidays.

How the estimates work

Each calculator applies a per-adult portion, scales it for kids and big eaters, adds the buffet bump or hungry-crowd adjustment you choose, converts cooked weights to raw weights where it matters, and rounds up to real-world units: pounds, dozens, cases and 10-lb bags of ice. They are planning estimates. Appetites vary, and it's always better to round up.

Who runs this

The site is built and maintained by a restaurant owner in Kentucky who has catered more parties, tailgates and holiday dinners than he can count and got tired of doing the same math on napkins. If you spot an error or have a calculator you wish existed, let us know.

How the site makes money

The site shows ads and may include affiliate links to kitchen equipment and party supplies. That never changes the math. If you give us your email to unlock a shopping list, we use it to send the occasional planning checklist, and you can unsubscribe with one click. We never sell it.
